About

Benchmarking outcomes in minimally-invasive esophagectomy

There are no available standard outcomes and benchmarking for the best possible results in minimally-invasive esophagectomy.

The purpose of this study is to identify the best possible outcome (i.e. benchmarking) using data from high-volume centers that may serve as “negative controls” for comparison with single center outcomes, high-risk patients, and future developments.

Data collection and study design are based on to the newly defined standardized reporting for benchmarking, as presented at the 2015 ASA meeting in Chicago. This multicenter cohort study will include several high volume centers performing over 20 esophagectomies (minimally-invasive and other procedures) per year over a 5 year period (i.e. 01.06.2011 to 31.05.2016).

Every center included in the study must have a prospective database from which data can be collected as well as previous publications critically reporting on their outcome.
